Nicolas Steenhout to Present 2 Papers at Confoo 2013

I am speaking at ConFoo. February 25 - March 1, 2013 | Montreal, Canada

I submitted two accessibility-related topics for Confoo 2013, held in Montréal 25 February – 1 March 2013. I’m quite happy that they were accepted! I’ll be presenting about “Accessibility: No Rights Without Responsibilities” and “The Evolution of Assistive Technology”.

Accessibility: No Rights Without Responsibilities

People with disabilities have a right to web accessibility. But what of their responsibility? Both developers and disabled web users must work together. Users have a responsibility to talk to developers, who have a responsibility to listen and implement. I will discuss specific ideas for both groups going forward and increasing accessibility.

The Evolution of Assistive Technology

Assistive Technologies 1st developed for people with disabilities often end up in everyday products. These products are then readopted people with disabilities. Looking at universal vs disability design. The presentation reviews this process and discusses several items and their history, such as Segway, speech-to-text, keyboards, eye-gaze, etc.

I look forward to giving these presentations and if you’re at Confoo, I hope you’re going to attend!
